Rocklyn recently installed a Veldeman aluminium structure as part of ‘Project 24’, an initiative of North Down Borough Council to transform a derelict and unused location in Bangor town centre into a shared public space. ‘Project 24’ consists of 12 artist studios, a community garden and an event space for community events such as concerts, art projects, market stalls and sporting competitions
We supplied an aluminium-framed unit of 20 metres by 10 metres to cover the event space and protect it from the elements during events. The use of aluminium made the structure easier to install than an equivalent steel-framed structure, while also reducing the risk of corrosion in the marine environment. The PVC fabric roof covering includes sides which enclose the space completely, allowing events to continue even in torrential rain.
“The structure, now known as The Hub occupies a central location on Bangor seafront and provides ample space for council-run events and activities. It is helping Project 24 to become a creative and welcoming public space for the residents of North Down.”
